All the APRS Beacons operate on the same frequency. To avoid collisions, they transmit at predefined times during each minute by use the current time in seconds to determine when to transmit. This reuse of the same frequency based on time is known as TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and is used for common standards such as the GSM cell phones.

The following table contains the current time slot configuration for the APRS tracking beacons and their respective software version. The software version of the beacon may be determined by monitoring the APRS frequency during Beacon turn on. During startup, the payload transmits a status message that contains the software version information.
