Telemetry

Telemetry is a data report provided by the NSRV computer that shows the current operational status and location.  The NSRV provides one of three types of telemetry data at a rate of one every twenty (20) seconds.  NOTE:  The telemetry messages are subject to change.  The latest information will be posted to this website the night before a scheduled flight.  The messages include the following:

Plain text status message.  The plain text status messages contains flight time, altitude, bus voltage, GPS status, and internal temperature.  The following is a typical status message and its data elements.

Telemetry  Description
> Standard AX.25 symbol to indicate this is an APRS status message. 
NSRV Mission identification string. 
02:04:46 Flight time in hours, minutes, and seconds.  This flight has been aloft 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 46 seconds.
70183' Current altitude in feet. 
-480'/min Current vertical speed in feet / minute. 
45 kts Current air speed in knots. 
0.7hdop GPS Horizontal Dilution of Position.  HDOP/PDOP is used to determine the accuracy of the current GPS solution.  An HDOP/PDOP of 3.0 or less indicates the GPS accuracy is very good.  The HDOP/PDOP is provided in the telemetry string to  determine what happens if the payload is tumbling after a balloon burst or if the package lands in an unusual attitude.
8.4v Payload computer power bus in volts DC. 
22.2F Internal payload computer temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. 
-15.2F External temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
