Overview Design Depreciated - This design has been replaced with the Pico Beacon. The Pico Beacon is a smaller, lighter, and more capable design. The design includes the TNC as well as the transmitter all in a single module. For reference, this design information will remain in place. The Micro Beacon II is a light weight (15.5 ounces with battery and enclosure), beacon that includes a GPS receiver, packet radio MODEM, flight recorder, temperature sensor, and a 70cm transceiver. In flight, the system provides plain text APRS telemetry data (flight time, altitude, temperature, and battery voltage) and $GPGGA/$GPRMC position reports. The beacon provides an independent, high reliability packet radio locating system system. Emphasis has been placed on simplicity, efficient power usage, and weight reduction.
