APRS Beacon

Overview

The NSRV Beacon is derived from the NSRV (Near Space Return Vehicle) project.  The beacon includes the controller that is used in the aircraft control system.  Some portions of the system that aren't applicable to a static balloon based flight have been excluded.  These include attitude indicator (solid-state gyroscope) and air speed (pitot tube) indicator.  Shown below is the block diagram of the beacon.

The basic structure of the beacon has proven to be reliable, light-weight, and easy to construct. This design has been used on a number of payloads.

The technical description, schematic, PCB layout are provided on the NSRV Controller page.

The telemetry data report is provided on the NSRV Telemetry page.  Minor updates may have been made to the plain text data stream that are reflected in the source code.

The emphasis of this payload section is the mechanical design that includes the Board Stack and Mechanical sections.

Shown below is the complete NSRV Beacon enclosure.
