Shown below is a battery holder designed for eight (8) AA L91 cells.  The pack produces a nominal 12VDC (14.5VDC with fresh cells) and is rated for 36 watt-hours of power.  The power to weight ratio of the assembly is very reasonable.  The total weight is 7.5 ounces (210g).  The battery holder assembly is 3.3 ounces (92g), while the eight cells are 4.2 ounces (118g).  Industrial Keystone P/N 1028 AA battery holder are utilized.  Rather than the standard wire spring to hold cells, the Keystone holders have thick spring steel on each end of the cell to ensure reliable contact and operation under high G load. See the Tech Tip section for notes on securing the batteries in the holders.




Shown below is the rear side of the board.  A resetable fuse is used for circuit protection.  This prevents damage from accidental short circuits during development and may allow a mission to be completed under a fault condition.
