Hardware

Shown below is the custom video link controller board.  The board utilizes a Microchip PIC18F252 flash memory based processor.  The processor decodes the bit stream from the UHF cross-payload receiver, sends commands to the camera controller via the RS-232 driver, programs the S-Band transmitter via the I2C interface, and controls the operation of the on-board power converters.  The processor oscillator provides the clock signal for the UHF cross-payload receiver.

The 12VDC required by the S-Band transmitter is generated by a switching boost regulator, followed by an LDO (Low Drop Out) linear regulator to improve ripple rejection.  The 5VDC required by the PA is provided by a switching buck regulator that can be turned on and off remotely.  The processor, UHF cross-payload receiver, and RS-232 driver all operate off an LDO linear regulator.  Because the total power required for these devices is less than 20mA, a linear circuit was selected rather than adding another switching supply to the system.
