Enclosure Although it wasn't built in the New Yankee Workshop, the following are the construction details of the LED clock. Shown below are the solid oak pieces that make up the top, bottom, and side surfaces. Holes are predrilled in the top and bottom for a mounting blocks that will hold the electronics' base plate. The side pieces have material removed to overlap the top and bottom. Finally, a narrow grove is cut into all pieces that will retain the Lexan face plate when it is assembled. Shown below is the assembled top, bottom and side pieces with the mounting blocks and Lexan front plate. Clamps are used to hold the rear panel pieces in place as the glue dries. The rear panel is made up of 1/4" solid oak stock. Shown below is the rear panel with the power and GPS antenna wiring installed. The two screws at the very bottom of the white base plate are fastened to the oak mounting blocks. The rear panel is attached with brass screws in four places. Protective felt pads are added to hold the clock in place and prevent damage to the bottom oak piece or the final location for the clock. The final assembly of the clock. |
