Antenna/LNA

For the reception of video signals over a long distance, a good quality ground antenna and LNA is required.  Shown below is the helix antenna.  To protect the elements, it is housed in a 4" diameter piece of PVC pipe.  The antenna is secured to an aluminum base plate that may be mounted on a controllable antenna mast for pointing.  The antenna is a DSH12-27 from Directive Systems.

Power for the LNA is provided on the center conductor of the feed line.  The LNA is a model 13ULNA kit available from Down East Microwave.  The kit is very easy to assemble and takes less than an hour to put together.  It is a no-tune design with broadband matching.  The device provide low noise gain and handles overload from nearby medium power VHF stations (25 watts) without any noticeable degradation of the video quality.
