The ATV receiver is a collection of off the shelf components and a custom
controller board.  The major subsystems include the following.

       Power
Fuses, reverse polarity diodes, and a transient suppressor protect the
hardware from the harsh automotive electrical environment.

       S-Band
Receiver  The S-Band receiver is a common, low cost Microwave
module manufactured by Comtech.  It is available from a number of
on-line vendors for less than $100.  It features an SMA input
connector, center conductor DC power for an LNA, good sensitivity, and
programmable frequency through an I2C interface.

       Video LCD
An Optrex 7" LCD module that features analog NTSC composite and S-Video
input.  This model of display (T-51440GL070HU-FW-AC) is commonly used in automotive
navigation and entertainment centers.  It can be purchased for less
    than $200.

2 x 20 LCD   The model C-51505NFQJ-LB-AE Optrex display is a character mode blue, backlit display used for frequency
and status information.  It can be purchased for around $25.

       Controller
The controller is a custom board with an embedded process (PIC 18F252),
digital I/O, and analog outputs to control he LCD displays, user interface,
and receiver.  The video LCD brightness, contrast, chroma level
(color), phase (tint), back light brightness are all controlled digitally
rather than through conventional, separate controls.

       User
Interface Buttons  3 push buttons used for operator control.
